Maac Vashi Panvel Pune Gravity 2023

MAAC Vashi, Panvel & MG Road Pune organised their 20th Annual Award Function called “Gravity 2023” on 2 December 2023. Over the past 20 years, Gravity has become one of the leading 3D animation and VFX events in Navi Mumbai and Pune.

Gravity 2023 was held at Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium in Vashi. The event was inaugurated by Animax Studios India directors Prasad Vanarase and Sanjay Khanted, MAAC national academic head Abir Aich, Aptech chief marketing head Pravin Arora, Aptech West Zone zonal technical head Ashish Garg, Aptech marketing team Poulomee.

Gravity provided the students of the three branches of MAAC a chance to experience the production pipeline flow and understand the in and outs of working in a production house.

This Annual Award Function was preceded by a three-month in-house competition where students were given an opportunity to create original artworks and submit them in various categories. A total of 150 Individual and Group entries were submitted in the categories Best Sketching, Best Digital Painting, Best Matte Painting, Best Photography, Best Character Modelling & Best Digital Film Making, Best Motion Graphics, Best UI Design, Best Visual Effects Film, Best Vector Arts and Best 3D Game Asset.

Students were given a chance to showcase their skills to representatives from leading productions houses and stalwarts in the Indian animation industry. Apart from displaying students’ works, the event allowed students of the three MAAC branches to showcase their talents by performing at the event.

The award winners were honoured with a trophy and winning certificates sponsored by Animax Studios India. Below is the full list of the winners:

Kabir Verma

CG Supervisor – ILM ( Industrial light and Magic)

Kabir Verma is an accomplished VFX professional with a wealth of experience spanning over 15+ years. His expertise has played a significant role in three Academy Award-winning projects for Best Visual Effects, where he held lead/supervisory position. Kabir's versatility shines through his extensive work on-set and collaborations with Film Directors and Clients for pre/post visualization. Having previously worked with MPC and Rhythm and Hues, Kabir has excelled in roles encompassing creative management and successful project delivery. Currently, he holds the position of CG Supervisor at ILM Mumbai, where he oversees the studio's creative endeavours.

Notably, Kabir has contributed his talent to various well-known projects, including 1917, Jungle Book, Life of Pi, Aquaman, Artemis Fowl, Lion King, and Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.

Sudhir Kamath

Chief Operating Officer – Nazara Technologies

Sudhir Kamath is an alumnus of Delhi University and IIM Ahmedabad. Sudhir has 20+ years of experience in strategy consulting, operations and entrepreneurship. Currently he is the Chief Operating Officer at Nazara Technologies, India’s first and only listed gaming company. He also serves as a Board Member / overseer at Nazara’s subsidiary companies in the gaming space - Nextwave (developer of the WCC family of cricket themed games), Wildworks (developer of the Animal Jam kids game),  Datawrkz (advertising technology for the gaming space) and Absolute Sports (publisher of the leading sports news site Sportskeeda). He previously founded 9stacks and Ungli Games. Sudhir started his career with the consulting firm McKinsey & Co. and has also served as the President of the Scrabble Association of India.
